Senior Vice President, Head of Government Relations • Jackson
Richard (Rich) White is senior vice president of government relations for Jackson. He is responsible for leading Jackson’s government relations efforts at the local, state and federal levels. In this role, he assists in formulating Jackson’s policy positions and strategies as well as directing the company’s advocacy efforts.
Additionally, Rich oversees Jackson’s engagement with elected officials and with various regulatory agencies. He also manages the company’s relationship with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and with other insurance industry stakeholders such as the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI).
Prior to joining Jackson in July 2017, Rich served as a partner at Thorn Run Partners, a leading federal lobbying and policy consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. He also previously supported Jackson as a consultant for over two decades on a variety of initiatives. Rich is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College and a law degree from The Catholic University of America.
Director, Advanced Planning • Jackson National Life Distributors LLC
Joining Jackson in 2021, Derek brings with him a wealth of knowledge and a desire to provide financial professionals with clarification of their complex situations. His background in estate planning, tax planning, and other investment-related topics allows Derek to do what he loves most: uncovering products and strategies that provide support for financial professionals that can help their clients and families.
Before joining the financial industry, Derek was an attorney with a private- practice law firm. After that, he joined Country Financial, working the majority of his eight years there in the Advanced Planning department.
Derek graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree after receiving bachelor’s degrees in political science and business administration from Augustana College. He also holds FINRA Series 6, 26, and 63 registrations, Illinois Life and Variable Products Insurance licenses, and is a licensed Illinois attorney. Derek is on the board of Midtown, a nonprofit in St. Louis, serving underprivileged children and the community, and is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals
Vice President, Government Relations • Natixis Investment Managers
Kari Grant is the Vice President for Government Relations at Natixis Investment Managers where she is responsible for building the firm’s relationships and expertise on political and policy events in Washington, DC. She has deep expertise in financial services industry policy, having spent over a decade working on the industry’s behalf in Washington and in London.
Kari joined Natixis Investment Managers in 2023 from the British Embassy in Washington where she was responsible for leading financial services industry relations and policy engagement for the North American region on behalf of His Majesty’s Government. Since beginning her career as an intern in the US House of Representatives in 2010, she has held senior level positions at US and UK-based financial services associations including the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), the Securities Industry Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
She holds a master’s degree in international economic relations from American University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.
Chief Government & Political Affairs Officer • Insured Retirement Institute
At IRI, Paul leads the association's legislative and political strategy for all efforts before Congress and the Administration. During his tenure at IRI, he played a pivotal role in enacting two of the most comprehensive retirement security laws in over a decade, the SECURE Act of 2019 and the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022.
Paul's influence and credibility in shaping public policy are underscored by his recognition from Washingtonian Magazine as one of the 'Most Influential People Shaping Policy' in business and labor in 2022, 2023, and 2024. The Hill has also recognized Paul as one of the top lobbyists for associations on Capitol Hill and Association Trends recognized him as a leading lobbyist and innovator who has helped further the mission of IRI.
His advocacy leadership was recognized by IRI with his receipt of the first IRI Chairman’s Award, as a testament to his efforts to advance IRI's mission. The American Society of Association Executives also acknowledged Paul’s work for IRI when IRI received a 'Power of A’ Gold Award for Advocacy in 2020 and 2023 and its 'Power of A' Silver Award for Advocacy in 2021.
Before IRI, Paul served as a senior government affairs professional, directing lobbying efforts at the state and federal levels for several national trade associations, including the Mortgage Bankers Association. He also was the Director of Federal Affairs for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
In addition, Paul has had a distinguished career in public service, serving during the Clinton Administration at the White House in the Office of the Vice President and the U.S. Department of Labor in the Secretary's office. Before coming to Washington, DC, Paul served as the Special Counsel for Economic Development to former New York governor Mario M. Cuomo.
Paul received his Juris Doctor degree from Cardozo School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.
